Heart, Snuggles, and Transformation: Meeting Caden & Owen in the Studio

This session is from when I had my Fanwood NJ Newborn Studio. How lucky am I that I get to do this for a living? Believe me, there is not a day that goes by that I do not thank my lucky stars.

As a busy momma myself, I don’t get out much—not even to see friends or family. So, when people I love book a session at my Fanwood, NJ newborn studio, it truly means the world to me. Getting to catch up while doing what I love is a gift I never take for granted.

The Magic of the Newborn Studio Experience

There is something so peaceful about a session in the studio. It’s a controlled, calm environment where we can focus entirely on the new little soul in front of us.

Little Caden was such a sweet, even-tempered baby. He was an absolute dream during our time together (can a baby even be “bad”? I don’t think that’s a thing!). He let me pose him, cuddle him, and snuggle him to my heart’s content.

Fun Fact: I pretty much cry at some point during every newborn session I do. I am constantly overwhelmed by the beauty of life, of this new little being, and these pure, innocent little souls. I get to be with them during the most magical time of their lives, and I feel that energy deeply every single time.

Honoring the Transformation of Motherhood

While I adore the babies, my awe of women is immeasurable. Once we go through pregnancy and childbirth, we are forever changed. Our bodies, our minds, our emotions—our very souls shift. There is no “going back” to who we were before, and I feel that in my own soul.

As a Union County newborn photographer, I consider it a privilege to sit with these moms in my studio during what is probably the most vulnerable time of their lives. I love to listen to their stories of childbirth—stories of fear, strength, sadness, and overwhelming love. We are souls having a human experience, and I feel that most when I am with a mother and her new baby.

So, I may have gone off on a bit of a tangent there, but Hi! My name is Joan Marie, and this is the heart behind my art. I don’t just want to “take a photo”; I want to capture the essence of your journey.
