Family First: A Soulful Newborn & Sibling Session with My Cousin Karen

As a NJ Newborn and Family Photographer, there is so much to say about the bond between cousins. It is such a special connection—a built-in warmth that comes from growing up together. It’s even better when you genuinely respect and admire the humans they’ve become.
My cousin, Karen, is exactly that kind of person. She has the most infectious laugh, the biggest smile, and the kindest heart. I feel incredibly blessed to call her family. And I am grateful we were able to do this soulful newborn session in NJ.
Addressing the “Disconnect” in a Busy World
As adults, we don’t see each other nearly as often as we’d like. We get swallowed up by the demands of work, kids, and endless activities. Honestly, I think it’s one of the biggest challenges of the world we live in today: we’ve lost the priority of true connection.
I believe with all my heart that if we could put family first again, we’d be a happier society. It reminds me of a favorite line from Phish:
“If you can heal the symptoms, but not affect the cause, you can’t heal the symptoms.”
Our society is in a state of disconnect, and I truly believe that rediscovering our roots and our bonds is the “cause” we need to address to find our way back to joy.
Capturing the “Cause”: Newborns, Motherhood, and Love
But I digress! What is this post actually supposed to be about? It’s about newborns, happiness, motherhood, and the beauty of a growing family.
To know Karen is to love her—it’s actually impossible not to. Being able to step into her world as a lifestyle family photographer and finally meet her beautiful little girls was the highlight of my week. Documenting this stage of her life wasn’t just a job; it was a way to rebuild that family connection I value so much.
Preserving Your Family’s Unique Bond
If you’re looking for family connection photography in NJ, my goal is always to look past the “stiff posing” and find the heartbeat of your family. Whether it’s a cousin reunion or a quiet newborn session, I want to capture the love that acts as the anchor in this busy world.
Karen, I love you and your beautiful family! I am so happy I finally got to capture these moments for you.
