One Month Old Newborn Session: A Westfield, NJ Family Story
When Art, Community, and Connection Come Full Circle
A few weeks ago, I put out a model call to test some new newborn props I had been dying to try out in the studio. When a dad from my hometown of New Providence responded, I was thrilled—and even more excited when I realized who it was!
Years ago, when I was just starting my newborn photography career, I connected with him. He is a managing physician at Watchung Pediatrics (the same incredible practice my own children go to, just at their Millburn location!). Back then, he generously allowed me to hang a large canvas of my photography right in their office. I don’t know if a single client ever booked directly from that canvas, but to a fresh photographer starting out, seeing my art on a wall where families and kids could admire it every day was everything. It was a massive moment of validation for me, and I’ve never forgotten that kindness.
So, when he reached out for our Newborn model call, it felt like such a special full-circle moment.
What to Expect During a One Month Old Newborn Session
Their sweet baby girl was four weeks old for our session. In the newborn photography world, planning a one month old newborn session means working with an “older” baby! Most traditional newborn sessions happen within the first two weeks while babies are still naturally sleepy and super flexible.
By one month, babies are more alert, awake much longer, and less inclined to curl up into those tiny, squishy poses. An older newborn session can definitely bring a few unique challenges, but it also brings so much magic. During this one month old newborn session, we got to capture her bright, curious eyes, her budding personality, and those wonderful alert expressions that parents fall in love with every day.
More Than Pictures: The Magic of Connection
What started as a quick model call for baby prop testing quickly turned into a full family session—and I am so glad it did.
While I got some amazing prop shots of their baby girl, playing with her two older sisters was absolute magic. I’ll let you in on a little secret: as much as I love photography, the real reason I do this is the connection. I love getting down on a kid’s level, making them laugh, playing silly games, and earning their trust. Watching her older sisters light up in front of the lens and connecting with them made the entire day pure joy. Three daughters together is such a sweet dynamic to capture!
An Experience, Not Just an Updated Photo
As a family photographer serving Westfield and the surrounding areas, people often come to me thinking, “Oh, I just want a couple of updated images.” But sessions like this remind me that it’s never just about a photo.
A photography session is a dedicated moment in time. It’s a rare hour where a family gets to step away from the everyday noise, put down the phones, ignore the distractions, and just be together. It becomes an experience, a shared memory, and a quiet celebration of where your family is right now.
Years from now, when these three girls are all grown up, these photos won’t just remind them of what they looked like—they’ll remind them of how it felt to be altogether in that season of life.
